Examination Success at The Welding Institute

Thomas ChurchillThomas Churchill, Lead QA/QC Coordinator from BIE’s Dutch office recently attended The Welding Institute in Cambridge, UK and successfully passed the CSWIP 3.0 Plus course and examination in visual weld inspection. As Thomas explains, “Undertaking this course has improved my knowledge of the main weld processes, welding qualification rules and the possible defects in each welding process. The course has given me added confidence and practical experience as well as meeting other young professionals working in the industry."

This forms part of BIE’s strategy to support graduate and young engineering technician access into the inspection discipline. BIE’s General Manager in mainland Europe, Andy Collings, elaborates further “We are delighted with this result from Thomas and this foundation qualification will give him a sound grounding in welding inspection that we can develop with practical experience and further courses and qualifications over the coming years. Reinforced with the new API Source Inspection Program there is a renewed vigour in the industry for encouraging the next generation of inspection professionals into the industry. This bodes well for the sustainability of a large pool of technically competent inspectors available to our clients.”

BSi Approval: Health, Safety and Environmental

It is no longer sufficient for organisations to merely claim their “health, safety and environmental credentials.” Credibility demands a properly verified strategy and commitment, which is why BIE embarked on the implementation of ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 in late 2013.

BIE is pleased to announce that formal approval and certification has been received from BSi for both ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 in May 2014. The accreditations have been achieved in just 8 months and join our current ISO 9001 Quality Management credentials, enabling the company to offer these three respected standards to the broad range of industries we serve.

Paul Wass, the BIE Group QHSE Manager said “We are delighted to be awarded the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards. This demonstrates that we are committed to ensuring that we provide a safe and healthy working environment for our personnel. Certification to these risk based standards ensure that we consistently manage our environmental, health, and safety risks through comprehensive systems in compliance with ISO and OHSAS standards of excellence.”
